Maura O. Sutherland, BA(Hon), LLB, has been dancing for over 30 years with a focus on various modern contemporary techniques. She attended Victoria High School (now Victoria School of the Arts) and the Grant MacEwan Dance Program. She was a long-term member of the Orchesis Dance Group at the University of Alberta during and after the completion of her Arts and Law degrees. Through that group, Maura has had numerous performance and choreographic opportunities.
Today, while Maura spends most of her time practicing law, she continues to stay connected with the Edmonton dance community and it is through that connection that Maura was introduced to Garuda. She has been hooked since taking her first class with Raena Waddell and recently obtained her Apparatus Foundation teaching certificate from Master Trainer, Erin Baker.
Throughout her life, Maura has been involved in various sports and other physical activities including: gym fitness, yoga, hockey, ringette, volleyball, softball, golf and cycling. Having overcome some physical challenges, Maura has a sound respect for the human body and is honoured to join the Truemovement team to help others benefit from fitness and organic creative movement – all aspects uniquely captured in the Garuda repertoire!
